Coding agents
Week of October 12: coding agents go team-mode
OpenCode, Codex CLI, Claude Code and VS Code all shipped multi-agent-focused updates between Oct 12 and 16, while Meta opened a huge coding model.
Between October 12 and 16, 2026, four major tools shipped updates pointing the same way: running more agents, for longer, with less babysitting (shattered.io).
What shipped
- OpenCode 2.0 (Oct 12): the open-source agent becomes a background service with an API, SDK and Code Mode.
- Codex CLI 0.163.0 (Oct 15): steer an agent mid-response; parallel read-only tool calls.
- Claude Code 2.1.302 (Oct 16): forked subagents on by default.
- VS Code 1.141 (mid-October): new Agents window, interactive canvas and Agent Merge.
On the model side
Meta launched Muse Spark Open, an 816B-parameter MoE (42B active) with a 1M-token context, built for agentic coding (NVIDIA). On October 19, Meta also released Muse Glimmer, a 30B-parameter Apache 2.0 model meant to run locally (Meta AI).
The trend: the single agent is giving way to coordinated agent teams.
