Universal Robots Gen 7 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act: what the company has said about cybersecurity, and what it has not tied to the law
Gen 7 launched in September with cybersecurity compliance in PolyScope X. The link to the EU Cyber Resilience Act comes from an earlier company blog.
Universal Robots unveiled its Gen 7 robot platform on September 14, 2026, so the launch itself is not new. What ties it to the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is thinner than the headline suggests. In a February 2026 blog written before Gen 7, the company said its IEC 62443-4-1 certification helps it address upcoming rules, including the CRA, early. We found no source that says Gen 7 itself is certified or declared compliant under the CRA.
The essentials
- What Gen 7 claims: the software platform, PolyScope X, brings, in the company's words, cybersecurity compliance to Gen 7, alongside ISO 10218-1 safety functions, per Unite.AI and Robotics and Automation News.
- The CRA link: a company blog dated February 4, 2026 names the CRA and says the process certification helps address it early. It does not mention Gen 7.
- The certification: that blog and a February 26 one say IEC 62443-4-1 Maturity Level 2. Unite.AI, in September, says Teradyne Robotics is certified at ML3, so the level is reported inconsistently.
- What this is not: IEC 62443-4-1 certifies a secure development process, not a product, and is not a CRA conformity assessment.
Why the wording matters
The CRA sets cybersecurity requirements for products with digital elements sold in the EU. A development-process certificate can help, but the law is about the product and the maker's obligations over its life. The company's own posts claim to be positioned strongly for new rules, which is not a statement of compliance. Under the regulation's published timetable, reporting duties for actively exploited vulnerabilities start in September 2026 and most other obligations apply from December 2027.
What would settle it
A statement from Universal Robots tying a named Gen 7 product to CRA requirements, details of what cybersecurity compliance covers in PolyScope X, and the certificate scope and level. None of these appeared in the pages we read.
What is not established
- Whether Gen 7 has been assessed against the CRA: not stated.
- What PolyScope X cybersecurity compliance covers: not detailed.
- Whether the certification level is ML2 or ML3: sources differ.
- Any independent audit of the claims: none seen.

Method and limits
Sources checked on November 7, 2026. The two company blogs were read through a page-summary tool; launch coverage was seen as excerpts. We did not see a CRA statement tied to Gen 7. This is not legal or security advice.
