Anthropic files to go public, OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra: the October 27 roundup
Anthropic publishes its S-1 ($16.3B of first-half revenue), OpenAI ships GPT-6.1 Terra at $1/$5 and two deals finance $103B of AI chips.
This roundup covers Monday, October 26, 2026, a busy day: Anthropic made its IPO filing public, OpenAI launched a cheaper model for agents, GitHub added it to Copilot the same day, and two giant financing deals were announced to buy AI chips. Unless stated otherwise, figures come from official documents.
Anthropic files its S-1: $16.3 billion in revenue in six months
Anthropic filed its Form S-1 with the SEC, the US securities regulator, on October 26, to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT" (Anthropic's S-1, TechCrunch). The share price and the amount raised are not set yet.
- Revenue: $16.29 billion in the first half of 2026, up from $1.16 billion a year earlier (+1,304%). For the whole of 2025, revenue was $4.59 billion (CNBC). This is reported revenue, not an annualized run-rate.
- Losses: the net loss for the half reached $80.7 billion, but about $72.4 billion is a non-cash accounting charge tied to revaluing convertible notes as the company's valuation rose. The operating loss was $693 million, down from $2.1 billion in the first half of 2025 (TechCrunch, AP).
- Governance: Anthropic remains a public benefit corporation. Its Long-Term Benefit Trust will elect, through a special share class, a majority of the board, and a single "Class F" share, held by an LLC of the seven co-founders, will carry 50.1% of the voting power, according to the S-1.
OpenAI launches GPT-6.1 Terra: $1 input, $5 output
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, a fast model built for computer use, visual reasoning and everyday coding (OpenAI announcement).
- Price: $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 for cached input and $5 for output, half the price of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Above 272,000 input tokens, the whole request is billed at 2x input and 1.5x output (model page).
- The model: a 1,050,000-token context window, 128,000 output tokens, text and image input, ID
gpt-6.1-terrain the API. It is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex on the Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu plans. - Reported scores: 50.3% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 at max reasoning effort, up from 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra. On its own error-inducing prompts, OpenAI measures a 16.7% error rate at low effort, down from 53.6% for the previous version. OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra remain the better choice for the most complex coding tasks. These are vendor figures. The model joins our model comparison.
GitHub Copilot: GPT-6.1 Terra and assisted permissions
The same day, GitHub made GPT-6.1 Terra available in Copilot on the Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans, rolling out gradually in VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, Copilot CLI and the cloud agent. It is billed at the provider's list price.
GitHub also made assisted permissions generally available in GitHub Copilot, across Copilot CLI, the Copilot app and VS Code. When the agent wants to run a command, access a path or open a URL, a model evaluates the request: anything classified as clearly safe goes ahead, the rest waits for your approval. In the CLI, turn it on with /permissions. Admins can block "Allow All" while keeping the assisted mode available.
$63 billion of Broadcom chips for Anthropic
Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley are financing, for $63 billion, a newly formed vehicle that will buy Broadcom XPU accelerators and networking gear and lease them to Anthropic. Deliveries are expected to start in 2027 (Broadcom release). According to Broadcom's law firm, the deal covers 1.7 gigawatts of the 3.5-gigawatt capacity agreement signed with Anthropic (Sullivan & Cromwell). Broadcom backs part of the hardware's residual value, with peak exposure expected at $43 billion, declining to zero over five years of lease payments (Broadcom presentation).
SpaceX: $40 billion of leased GPUs
SpaceX has made a binding commitment to a master finance lease of about $40 billion with an Apollo-managed entity, which will buy NVIDIA Vera Rubin chips and related equipment for the company's terrestrial data centers (SpaceX release). Closing is expected before the end of 2026, and the leases, running five to five and a quarter years, will start as GPUs are delivered in the first half of 2027, according to the regulatory filing cited by TechCrunch. SpaceX calls it the largest committed GPU financing ever.
The number: $16.29 billion
That is Anthropic's revenue for the first half of 2026, as published in its S-1, fourteen times its first-half 2025 revenue.
What it changes
For developers, the practical news is GPT-6.1 Terra: a $1/$5 model that can drive a terminal, already selectable in Copilot. For the market, Anthropic's S-1 gives the first verifiable accounts from a major lab, and the Broadcom and SpaceX deals show that buying chips now runs through Wall Street-financed leases.
