Aramco takes 49% of Saudi Arabia's AI company HUMAIN

Aramco closed its purchase of 49% of HUMAIN on November 1, 2026. What is reported on the price, the 2025 term sheet and PIF's control, and what is missing.

By ·

As of November 3, 2026, the deal is no longer planned: Aramco completed its purchase of 49% of HUMAIN on November 1, according to two regional news reports. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) keeps 51% and control. The reported consideration is about 9.9 billion Saudi riyals (about $2.6 billion) plus AI, compute and digital assets that have not been detailed, and no valuation of HUMAIN has been published. We did not open PIF's own press release.

The essentials

What exactly happened?

Startup Fortune and Entrepreneur Middle East, both dated November 2, report that the transaction closed on November 1. PIF's own closing release is not something we could open. HUMAIN is an AI company owned by PIF and led by Tareq Amin, formerly of Rakuten.

What is the deal worth?

Both reports give the same figure: about 9.9 billion riyals, or about $2.6 billion. Entrepreneur Middle East presents it as cash paid to HUMAIN in 2026, with AI, compute and digital assets transferred on top. Startup Fortune calls it a price and a cash transaction, yet also says both parties contribute assets, compute and talent. That text is not consistent on what is cash and what is not. Neither report states a valuation of HUMAIN, and we have not derived one.

What is the context, and what does HUMAIN want?

On October 28, 2025, PIF and Aramco signed a non-binding term sheet, per Argaam. Aramco would take a significant minority stake, both sides would contribute AI assets, capacity and talent, and PIF would stay the majority owner. It required final agreements and regulatory approvals.

According to the two 2026 reports, Aramco plans to use HUMAIN's AI infrastructure and services in its industrial applications. Aramco chief executive Amin Nasser says the deal strengthens Aramco's technology position and cites $11.3 billion of "Technology Realized Value" since 2023, an Aramco figure. Yazeed Al-Humied of PIF says grouping AI investments under HUMAIN should feed talent and technology.

On capacity, the sources diverge. Entrepreneur Middle East mentions a target of 3 gigawatts of AI data centers by 2030. Startup Fortune gives 1.9 gigawatts by 2030 and 6.6 gigawatts by 2034, at a projected cost of about $77 billion. These are company targets, and we do not settle between them.

From term sheet to closing, and the 2030 target. Aramco and HUMAIN, three milestones. Oct. 28, 2025: Non-binding term sheet: significant minority stake for Aramco, no figures; Nov. 1, 2026: Closing: Aramco 49% / PIF 51%; 2030: Target of 3 GW of AI data centers (company target; another source gives 1.9 GW). Capacity figures are company targets, not commitments, and they differ between sources. Source: Argaam (Oct. 28, 2025), Entrepreneur Middle East, Startup Fortune (Nov. 2, 2026).

What is not established?

HUMAIN's valuation. The split between cash and assets. The nature and value of the transferred assets: 2025 coverage mentioned Aramco Digital, which we cannot confirm. The payment timing. Whether the 49% and the November 1 date come from PIF's release, which we did not read.
